We do love our furry little housemates, there is no doubt about that! But if you are thinking of selling your home there are a few steps to take prior to listing be certain you are showing your house at its best.
The optimal solution is to relocate your animals during the process of prepping and listing. Not only for the sake of potential buyers but also for your pets. Staging, open houses, and showings can be very disruptive to their lives.
Once you’ve moved them out with a friend, relative, or someone found on
Rover, the next step is to remove all signs of them.
1: Fix any damage to the house or furniture they have done
2: Remove dog doors, litter boxes, food bowls, and beds
3: Eliminate odors!
- Wash everything you can - bedding, curtains, towels, throw rugs, etc.
- Replace your HVAC filter
- Steam clean carpets and furniture
- Open windows
- Light candles
- Spray an ozone spray (don’t just spray a strong scent over the top of pet smells, this strong fragrance can be just as irritating to potential buyers as the smell you’re trying to cover)
In addition to the list above to eliminate damage and smells, if your pets will be staying in your home throughout the listing there are a few things you can do to make it easier on everyone involved during showings and open houses:
- Remove them from the house during these times
- Tuck away litter boxes, food dishes, water bowls, and toys
NOW TO BRING THE PETS BACK IN!
Ok, the house sold, now it’s time to move those little fur balls into the new space! There are some pet owners that really have this figured out, taking some inspo from them...
